My Parker Pen

Image
It was yet another rainy day, and the government declared a public holiday for all schools for a second day in a row. I went back to my childhood days, nostalgic on how I used to brave the monsoon and cyclones to go to school. Rainy days meant longer breaks; we could wear slippers and flaunt our raincoats and umbrellas. Those good old fun days! I brought myself back to reality and got ready to battle my day. My mission was to save two children from becoming slaves to television: my three-year-old, who spends every waking minute talking and my eight-year-old, who loves questioning and discussing. After three games of monopoly, tumbling towers and reading a dozen books, it was still afternoon. My ears and mouth cried for rest, and my head for some quiet time. I took out the painting kit, hoping to engage the younger one. She took the bait and started painting. I had just won a discussion with my older one on why we should learn multiplication tables even if we have a calculator at home.
