The Farmer

  What lay in front was a village, Barren and dry. It was not long ago, It was a sight to behold, Wrapped in lush green, full of vegetation. Those days felt like a distant dream. I let out a loud sob, The voice of my heavy heart, Letting go of remnants of my beautiful past. Oh, I am a fighter, out and out, I have fought and won many wars, But this war with nature, I don’t know a way out. It has me on my knees on my land, Parched and dry. I lamented, Seeking and begging for help, Closed doors and blind eyes are all that I got. It crushed that little hope in my heart. Life always moves on. It spares none. I am but a victim, Of fate, Of vagaries of nature, Of human nature, I know not what. But I continue to do what I do,  Despite the odds stacked against, For doing is the only way, To burn that light of hope in my heart. That light that keeps me alive, For another day, looking up at the sky, For another day, hoping for some relief, For another day wishing the world sees, The plight of a f
